Estimated taxes
Quarterly estimated
taxes, explained.
When no employer withholds tax from your income, the IRS generally expects payments during the year. Booking is not open for quarterly help; ask in a consultation.
You generally need to make estimated payments if you expect to owe $1,000 or more when you file, after withholding and credits. Individuals use Form 1040-ES; the year is split into four payment periods.

Talk to a specialistWhen are the payments due?
For 2026 income: April 15, June 15 and September 15, 2026, and January 15, 2027. For 2027 the IRS schedule is April 15, June 15 and September 15, 2027, and January 2028.
What if I miss one?
You may owe a penalty for late or short payments, even if you are due a refund when you file. Paying at least 90% of this year’s tax or 100% of last year’s generally avoids it.
